Amsterdam,
August 97
My first business trip
to Europe was to visit Amsterdamin August 1997. Me and my coworker arrived
at Amsterdam on Saturday morning. We spend the weekend exploring Amsterdam
and surrounding area. |

Amsterdam
is a small city, compare to Paris, Berlin or London. But it has a lot
of charm. My favorite was Van Gogh Museum. It was my first time to see
his art in real eyes. What more words can I say about him and his art?
The town is build on top of
many canals. Well, the Netherland is a country build on top reclaimed
land and canals. Still encountering with water ways every other street
was a different experience.

Getting around in Amsterdam is easy. There is tram (the yellow train in
the photo) running all over the town. It is not terribly fast, but no
need to look for parking space, cheap, and convenient. By the end of the
day, I felt like as if I knew this town enough for a long time.

But the popular transportation in Amsterdam was bicycle. They are all
over the place. There is a bike road next to car and tram. We
took a late lunch in a cafe near by an intersection on the day we arrived.
Every time the signal changes, flock of bicycles passed me by. I do have
a question; do they still ride bicycle in the cold and rainy winter? I
did not take many photos of buildings or famous tourist attractions. There
were more photos of people. People are interesting to watch.

 (Far

during the day time. Yes, this place is next to the infamous red light
district of Amsterdam.

My favorite shot in the Amsterdam. A couple on bicycles, old town, a road
with tram rail, very European, I think.
(Below
3 photos) More streets of Amsterdam.

  We
drove outside Amsterdam on Sunday afternoon. We looked for the famous
windmills. After driving more than one hour, finally we found this windmill
in a small town.
Other
places we been to: Afsluitdijk (the big dam), some yacht harbor, and
some national park I don't recall the name.
