Other Parks And Spaces

Shoreline Parks and surrounding area offer the most comprehensive facilities in the Peninsula. The first attraction into the Shoreline Road is the movie theater with 16 screens. This is the second largest in this area. As you drive further, you will see a big tent: Shoreline Theater. Big name artists like Pink Floyd and Sting play every summer night. Bring a warm clothes though. The night gets chilly even in the summer time. Once you cross the park entrance gate, you will find yourself driving through Shoreline Golf Course. The Michaels Club House is one of my favorite lunch spot. The very end of the drive is the Shoreline Park. Many trails meander between lakes (inland sea?) and bay side marsh land. This park is always popular with families, group of friends, and flock of birds.
This is a very relaxing place. But you can still hear people talking about new technologies, stock prices, and venture investiment even in the weekends.

I do not know if they are really parks, but San Andreas and Crystal Spring Lakes are very popular among residents of San Francisco. Unfortunately the western side of these lakes are completely closed for public to protect the water quality. They supply the precious drinking water to city of SF. However, the eastern side is open. Even better, the Canada road is closed for cars between Edgewood Rd. and CA92 on Sundays (APR-OCT, 9am-4pm). The road is also very flat. These makes the reservoir the ideal destination for bicycling.

One weekend, I biked to the reservoir. Crystal Spring Lake (left), I still do not know what it is (above), CA92 crossing the reservoir (above right), and trees on the lake in the evening (right).

The Dish is a popular hiking and running open space just next to the Stanford University. In fact, it is a property of the University. Apparently they decided to manage the land better in the summer of 2000. Ever since, the space has well maintained paved trail as well as restrictions to take any other small trails. No more adventure into unknown trails, no access to the maze made of small stones at the top of the hill, no walk through an old rock mines. But it still is the best place to see beautiful sunset around.
