Best Sunset

Sunset
is the best time to take a gorgeous photo. Here's a few of my nice sunset
photos. |

Central
Valley
This is the best "typical" photo of what is called... sunrise.
OK, now includes sunrise as well. I was driving on I80 heading to Lake
Tahoe. The Weather report said it would rain in the afternoon. The clouds
were rushing onto the Central Valley. The sunrise started when I was near
Tracie. Suddenly, the sky turned to this dark red. Probably the most colorful
sunrise I've ever seen. Parked my car near-by parking, and took several
photos. All of them turned out to be a great ones. In
my opinion, Silicon Valley is not a good place for sunset (or sunrise).
On the other hand, I saw many great sunset while driving through the Central
Valley. Usually coming back from skiing. I wonder may be there are many
particles or dusts in the air in the Central Valley which creates such
amazing colors at the sunset.

Beaches
The sunset at beaches are always gorgeous. I put a lot of photos of sunset
at the beach in other photo essay (Driving in the US). This new photo
was taken near by Pigeot Point Light Station Historic Park. There is a
cliff next to the lighthouse. A popular photo spot with great view of
the lighthouse. Quite a few people were enjoying the sunset, pacific ocean,
and the lighthouse. He and his family (with another kid and mother) came
to the cliff quite early, but he never moved around. The kids and mother
were walking around. But the father just stood still staring at the sunset
for a long time. I have to wonder what thought did he have when holding
his child. This was a perfect moment when he picked up his kid just right
before the sun settled beneath the sea.
More
photos of sunset at beaches. This photo of a pier was taken in a town
called Ventura. A popular tourist destination for Los Angelians (I guess)
this place is filled with vacationers. Yet, the pier created a pieceful
moment just before the sunset. It was abnormaly warm day. Beneath is another
shot of the sunset at Ventura. Hmm, is this the sunset southern Californian
enjoys everyday? Maybe it is not bad to live there...

Sunset
In Seattle
My best sunset I've ever seen was in summer and fall in Seattle, 1994.
They said it was the best summer in 10 years. I said it was my best
summer in my life. Just after I graduated from college, I was looking
for a job in Seattle at that time. I drove up to the San Juan islands
near Canadian border. On the way back, the sky turned into total red.
I was driving in the middle of the sunset for a long time. Occasinaly
I could overlook the Pugeot Sound. Then, I took a ferry line. The
ferry slowly sailed into the sea at sunset. I believe the sunset at
northern area last longer than south. (I am really sorry, no photos.)

Sierra
Nevada
(left) This photo is,
world famous Half Dome in Yosemite illuminated by the sunset.
Waking
up early is good. Although that was never my habit, but I started to appreciate
breathing the cold air of an early morning.

Valley near town of Bishop.

Seattle
I always thought it was not possible to see a great sunset in a middle
of mountain range. In particular in the tall and steep Sierra Nevada.
I was stunned when I saw it in the Lake Tahoe. At around 4 o'clock
in winter time (after skiing), the setting sun shined up the mountains
at the eastern side of Lake Tahoe. When you go to Lake Tahoe next
time, please try driving the western side of the lake at sunset time.
It will be unforgettable. (Sorry no photos.) |
Sunset
In the US
One of my friend came visit SF from Japan. We visited Yosemite National
Park for a weekend. One the way back from the park, somewhere on Interstate
5, he suddenly shouted "wow", and started to shoot photos.
It was at the sunset time, and the sun was illuminating the eatern
sky with beautiful violet color. He said, he had never seen a sunset
on eastern sky in Japan. |

Sunrise/Sunset Photos...
Grand
Canyon (right)
Grand Canyon looks best at sunrise or sunrise time. The rocks become colorful
where sun lit, and shadows are long and deep.
San
Francisco Bay (left)
Waking up early to watch sunrise in the SF bay area. This photo was taken
at a near-by marsh land. Not as gorgeous but still a wonderful feeling.
